Words are Important.
This month's podcast episode is particularly meaningful as it explores how God communicates with us. Within evangelical communities, there can be differing opinions on this subject. I am often troubled by some of the flawed theology and careless teachings I hear from other Christians when they say things like, "God spoke to me," "I'll listen for the Lord's voice," or "I felt God leading me to...."
Although I appreciate the good intentions behind such statements, I am apprehensive about their theological basis and alignment with scripture. These comments are particularly worrisome as they purport to convey divine revelation beyond what is written in the Bible. Some Christians may not fully grasp the gravity of such statements. However, we should remember that ignorance is no excuse for preaching such messages from the pulpit. 2 Timothy 2:15 states, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." Choosing your words carefully when expressing your faith reveals your view of scripture. Having a high view of scripture signifies that you believe the Bible is enough, while having a low view suggests doubt in the Word of God and a belief that the Bible is not enough.
With so many Christians claiming to have received personal messages, nudgings, leadings, and whispers from God, it can be challenging to reconcile these claims with the Bible. In this episode, we will explore the topic of hearing from God and whether or not He speaks outside of the scriptures. Our guest, Pastor, and Author Jim Osman, will help us navigate this compelling topic. Join us as we explore whether God communicates truth and expresses His will to us through means other than the Bible.
